A woman’s posture, gait and presence are noticeably (to everyone but the men who participated in the study, apparently) changed when she is wearing high heels. They make her legs look longer, highlight her behind and re-angle her torso. It also helps that the world has a collective shoe fetish, causing men and women to view the high heel as sexy and alluring. Wearing high heels is one thing women definitely do for the benefit of men, since they are usually not the most comfortable choice in footwear. A woman’s feet and wallet both suffer for the cause of great shoes.
Unlike men who can get away with rolling out of bed, throwing on some semi-clean clothes and doing a bit of minor grooming, women spend a ton of time and money on their appearance. Sure, they dress and groom in order to feel good about themselves, but the idea of being attractive to men is never far from their minds either. Unfortunately, a lady's efforts are too often overlooked by male admirers who may appreciate the look as a whole, but don't notice the little things that go into it.
A study released in the fall of 2010 by Northumbria University in Britain reinforces the idea that men are inattentive to these details by showing that men couldn’t see a difference in the way a woman walks when wearing heels or flats. Esquire seems to think North American men are more observant, retweeting The Huffington Post’s link to the article Men Don’t Notice When Women Wear High Heels, Study Says, adding, “Yes we do.”
